Nikon SuperGP – Mark Winterbottom

For those of you whom may not have caught the telecast, please take a look
at the video link below for the final stages of Mark Winterbottom’s dominant performance at the Nikon SuperGP over the weekend, which saw him leave his opposition in shock after topping qualifying, taking Pole position, two race victories and two second places to become the first Nikon SuperGP Champion.

Aussie V8 Supercars testing fibre technology used by F1 leaders

Australian manufacturer Colan is working with V8 supercar teams to test the use of a revolutionary new lightweight fibre for the Australian championship following its successful use in Formula One cars.

The new fibre, Innegra, is a high performance yarn that, when combined with carbon fibre, can improve the toughness of the cars while decreasing their weight.

“This is on back of the Innegra’s use by the new Brawn GPs Formula One team, which has won seven Grand Prixs in this season and after the Singapore race this weekend is 42.5 points ahead in the championship. But at the moment the names of the V8 teams are under wraps while they carry out the tests,” said Genelle Coghlan, CEO of specialist fabric producer Colan. Read more…

Toyota – New LandCruiser Prado great both on and off-road

New Toyota LandCruiser Prado will simultaneously improve its off-road abilities and make it easier for city dwellers to drive every day, following its unveiling today in Australia – in tandem with Japan and Frankfurt.

With more than 90 per cent of customers using Prado for weekly on-road driving, Prado increasingly bridges the gap between a capable off-roader and a passenger car.

Kyogle – Local Community Groups And Businesses Benefit From Repco Rally Australia

Kyogle Council’s Mayor, Ross Brown advises that early feedback in relation to economic benefits from the Repco Rally Australia event held during the last week indicate significant economic benefits to local community groups and businesses.

Figures received to date from several local volunteer organisations show that profits in excess of $30,000 have been raised by these community groups through their activities during the rally. It is expected that this figure will grow as more information becomes available.

The presentation of the Abu Dhabi “Spirit Of The Rally” award to Kyogle and Tweed Councils recognises “a display of extraordinary local generosity and determined organisation “. Full credit goes to the volunteers and community groups that embraced the event despite no prior association or familiarity with the motorsport and made it such a success. Read more…

Alex Davison and Shane van Gisbergen take top 10 finish at L&H 500

Alex Davison and Shane van Gisbergen finished tenth in today’s L&H 500; it was a great recovering from the two IRWIN/SP Tools Racing drivers after complications earlier on in the race. John McIntyre and Daniel Gaunt crossed the line in 17th after a long and gruelling 113 laps.

The 500km event at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit produced plenty of action with numerous incidents and two safety car periods, a lead change on the final lap added to the excitement when Garth Tander passed Craig Lowndes for the win.

On the first lap Davison got a blinder of a start passing three cars by the first turn. During the following laps Davison applied pressure and was hot on the tail of FPR’s Steven Richards and by Lap 5 had passed the #6 Falcon to sit 3rd. Read more…

No Koalas Or Threatened Species Killed Or Injured During Repco Rally Australia, Scientists Report

The organisers of Repco Rally Australia have released preliminary information collected by an independent team of environmental scientists from Biolink Pty Ltd, led by respected scientist Dr Stephen Phillips, following the conclusion of the event last Sunday.

Dr Phillips explained the process put in place for the rally -

”Firstly, in the months prior to the rally we thoroughly inspected the entire competition route and noted all potential habitats for koalas, lyrebirds and any other threatened species. With the organisers we assembled a team of people and a plan to install various measures as outlined in our final reports of July 2009.

“On the morning of each day of the rally two teams each comprising three ecologists surveyed the entire competition course prior to the running of the first car. Read more…

V8 Supercars – Challenging day for David Wall at the Island

A number of different issues have made the qualifying day at the L&H 500 at Phillip Island a challenge for New South Welshman, David Wall.

Grappling with the set up of their Wilson Security Racing #333 V8 Supercar, David and his co-driver Leanne Tander struggled in qualifying with both drivers starting their respective qualifying races towards the rear of the field.

David, Leanne and the team worked on the car set up between the qualifying sessions and the first of the qualifying races. The team were able to make a few improvements to the car and David was happier with the car during his qualifying race. Read more…

Cold Chisel reforms for one-off at V8 Supercar Sydney Telstra 500

In an entertainment coup, V8 Supercars Australia has confirmed the country’s most successful rock band, Cold Chisel, will re-unite for a special one show only concert event at the much anticipated Sydney Telstra 500, on Saturday 5 December.

The announcement cements the Sydney Telstra 500 as Sydney’s biggest sporting and entertainment event for 2009, with the three-day entertainment spectacular at Sydney Olympic Park offering the best touring car racing on show by day and a celebration of iconic Australian music by night.

Rock legend and Cold Chisel singer Jimmy Barnes said that this was an opportunity the band could not pass up.

“Cold Chisel is the best band I have ever played with. No matter when we get together sparks fly and something beautiful happens. The band has always been a huge part of my life and I know that when we play, the house will rock. I can’t wait to get in front of The V8 crowd and cut loose. Bring it on.” Read more…

Troy Bayliss prepared for V8 Supercar debut at Phillip Island

While an expert of the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on two wheels, Troy Bayliss will become a rookie all over again this weekend when the multiple World Superbike Champion gets behind the wheel of a Paul Morris Motorsports prepared Commodore with Dean Fiore at the first endurance race of the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series, the L&H 500.

Since claiming his third World Superbike Championship less than a year ago, Bayliss has made the successful transition from two to four wheels with test days completed with TeamVodafone, Jack Daniel’s Racing and Paul Morris Motorsports. Bayliss then accepted an invitation to join Fiore for the L&H 500 at Phillip Island and the Supercheap Auto 1000 at Bathurst’s iconic, Mount Panorama.

After spending time with the Triple F Racing team and working on his fitness for the event, Bayliss said he is feeling prepared for L&H 500 and can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the #12 Commodore which will carry a striking blue and white, Kitten Car Care Products livery for the Phillip Island and Mount Panorama events.

“I’ve been training a lot to prepare my body for the race and overall I am feeling ready and really looking forward to the weekend,” Bayliss said. Read more…

Steve Owen and Shane Price take over at Team Autobarn

Endurance specialists Steve Owen and Shane Price will step up their V8 Supercar campaigns this weekend, jumping into the #10 Autobarn Commodore for the Phillip Island 500.

With regular Autobarn pilot Paul Dumbrell stepping into the organisations’ sister operation, the Toll Holden Racing Team for Phillip Island and Bathurst, Steve Owen and Shane Price will take the reigns at Walkinshaw Racing.

Owen, 34 and Price, 22, both turned their focus to securing an endurance drive this year after missing out on full time gigs in V8 Supercars. Both looked for a seat that would give them the best possible chance of a strong result in the endurance events. Read more…
