Accenture drops Tiger Woods sponsorship – Tiger Woods Accenture Press Release

December 14th, 2009 No comments

Dec. 13, 2009 – Accenture (NYSE: ACN) today announced that it will not continue its sponsorship agreement with Tiger Woods.

For the past six years, Accenture and Tiger Woods have had a very successful sponsorship arrangement and his achievements on the golf course have been a powerful metaphor for business success in Accenture’s advertising.  However, given the circumstances of the last two weeks, after careful consideration and analysis, the company has determined that he is no longer the right representative for its advertising.  Accenture said that it wishes only the best for Tiger Woods and his family.

Accenture will continue to leverage its “High Performance Business” strategy and “High Performance Delivered” positioning in the marketplace.  The company will immediately transition to a new advertising campaign, with a major effort scheduled to launch later in 2010. Read more…

Tiger Woods taking hiatus from golf – Tiger Woods Press Release

December 14th, 2009 No comments

I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I’ve done, but I want to do my best to try.

I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What’s most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.

After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.

Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period.

World-famous golfer Tiger Woods hit the headlines in early December when his wife, Elin Nordegren was accused of attacking him in his car.

It now turns out that Tiger has had more than a dozen mistresses and may also have had a love child, which tarnishes his carefully crafted, master sportsman and family man image.

Astrologer Elizabeth Ball of http://www.itsinthestarsonline.com explains why Tiger is going through such a troublesome phase from an astrology point of view.

“Tiger is born under Sun in Capricorn, which makes him ambitious, goal-oriented, controlling and incredibly hard-working. He has been playing and perfecting his golf since he was a tiny boy,” said Elizabeth Ball. Read more…

Sydney Seafood School has seen many changes in 20 years

September 22nd, 2009 No comments

Twenty years is a long time in the food world. In 1986 farmed Tasmanian Atlantic salmon entered the market – available only in season from October to February. By 1989 leading food magazines were heralding aquaculture (then confined to a very few species such as salmon, mussels and oysters) as the way of the future. In that year the NSW Fish Marketing Authority (which later became Sydney Fish Market) opened Sydney Seafood School, a purpose-built training facility with tiered seating and a large overhead mirror for demonstrations and an adjoining practical kitchen for hands-on cooking.

Although Sydney-siders were starting to become more interested in food, the average palate was still at best quite uneducated and at worst quite staid. French was the largest category in leading restaurant guides and Asian flavours, which we take for granted today, were still considered exotic. The NSW fishing fleet caught plenty of whiting, bream, snapper and flathead to supply the local market. But in doing so, they also netted a fair amount of octopus, squid, red mullet, crabs, mussels and other species with which shoppers weren’t familiar, at least not familiar enough to take them home and cook them. A large part of the fishermen’s catch was unwanted and sold as bait or for next to nothing to those who did appreciate them. Read more…

Bureau of Meteorology – New Sydney Doppler weather radar now online

September 9th, 2009 No comments

Sydney has a new state-of-the-art weather radar that will help forecasters and the community see in greater detail upcoming weather – including severe weather such as thunderstorms.

The Doppler weather radar was launched today at Terrey Hills by Australia’s Director of Meteorology, Dr Greg Ayers.

The new radar is more sensitive and uses the latest technology to provide clearer radar images at a higher resolution than previously possible. It replaces one that has been operating at Appin, south of Sydney since 1992.

Commissioning the radar, Dr Ayers noted the significance of its range which spans Sydney and surrounding areas – “an area that is home to more than a quarter of the Australian population.” Read more…
