Cytopia Limited (ASX: CYT) has received ethics committee approval to commence dosing patients in its CYT997 Phase II clinical trial in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) at the Gold Coast Hospital in Southport, Queensland. The Gold Coast Hospital will be the company’s fourth clinical site for this study. Dr Andrew Hill will act as local Principal Investigator.
GBM is an aggressive form of brain tumour which is currently treated by surgical resection, and/or radiation and chemotherapy. Despite these treatments, the condition recurs in most patients, leading to poor patient outcomes. GBM tumours are highly vascular, rendering them potentially susceptible to destruction by an anti-vascular agent such as CYT997.
The company will also shortly file the requisite regulatory submissions to the Medicines andHealthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to enable dosing at clinical centres in the United Kingdom and is considering further centres in North America.
“The addition of the Gold Coast Hospital strengthens this program,” said Mr Andrew Macdonald, CEO of Cytopia. “The company is looking forward to concluding the doseescalation portion of this study early next year.”
