“Countdown to Copenhagen” is the theme to launch THINK! Thursdays, a series of thought-provoking conversations inspired by short presentations from guest speakers at Denmark House. Beginning on 12 November, THINK! Thursdays will run every Thursday from 5-7 pm throughout the year and presentations will be based on the theme “Countdown to Copenhagen: COP15”.
The launch event is free and open to members and non-members. Participants can enjoy a complimentary beverage and light snacks while discussing issues surrounding the Copenhagen summit COP15; the United Nations Climate Change Conference taking place 7-18 December in Copenhagen in anticipation of the 2012 Kyoto protocol expiration.
THINK! Thursdays will begin with a presentation from Megan Wheatley, Business Development Manager at Suzlon Energy Australia, the world’s fifth largest manufacturer of wind turbines. Suzlon is currently committed to producing close to 700 megawatts of clean renewable energy in Australia, delivered to consumers for utility and investor purposes. Megan has worked at Sustainability Victoria, where she managed the development of the Victorian Wind Atlas and the Government’s black balloons energy saving campaign. Read more…

While there might be a government rebate for ceiling insulation, window coverings also need to be evaluated by Victorian home owners looking to save the environment and money.
Brett Thomas, Director of Victorian icon The Blind Factory, estimates that poor window cover choices cost home owners in excess of $250 every summer.
“Home owners tend to think more about keeping cool with the air conditioner along with insulation in the ceiling, rather than looking at the more obvious choice of window coverings.

Former West Australian Premier Alan Carpenter has been appointed to a senior management role at Wesfarmers Limited.
Mr Carpenter will take up the position of Executive General Manager, Corporate Affairs in early December.
Wesfarmers Managing Director Richard Goyder said he was delighted Mr Carpenter had decided to join the company.
“Alan is a very talented person who, as a senior Minister and Premier, made a significant contribution to Western Australian public life,” he said.
