Sydney Seafood School Relaunches with Cutting Edge Technology

September 22nd, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

Sydney Seafood School celebrates its 20th anniversary in November 2009 with a swag of exciting birthday presents. Following a 3-month refurbishment, by Michael McCann of dreamtime australia design, the School has relaunched with a beautiful new look and a cutting-edge fit out.

The custom-made, stainless steel cooking islands in the hands-on kitchen contain state-of-the-art Fisher & Paykel Izona appliances. Launched in Australia in mid-2008, the CookSurface (which won an Australian International Design Award this year) is a frameless rectangular black glass cook top with three gas burners that rise and retract as needed, combining the performance of gas with the ease of cleaning of ceramic glass. The CoolDrawer, the world’s first multi-temperature fridge drawer, has a choice of five specifically-designed temperatures for storing various foods and beverages chilled or frozen. And the VentSurface, which even on full speed is far quieter than a normal rangehood, features the first intuitive sensor extraction system that automatically activates to extract smoke and steam as soon as cooking commences. “We selected Fisher & Paykel cooking products for their aesthetic appeal and design flexibility,” says Seafood School manager, Roberta Muir.

Meanwhile, in the School’s demonstration kitchen, the overhead mirror above the bench has been replaced by cameras and four 46″ Sharp High Definition LCD television screens, giving an uninterrupted view of all the action on the cooking bench. “We’re very excited about offering our guests a beautiful new kitchen equipped with the latest equipment,” said an excited Muir. “BeefEater Barbecues are providing five built-in 5-burner gas barbecues for our most popular class, Seafood Barbecue, and German company Hettich are supplying their fantastic full extension InnoTech drawers, sensys hinges and heavy duty runners – all with soft close dampening – to ensure all our cabinetry opens and closes smoothly and silently, as well as the latest European-designed LED cabinet lighting.”
