Third UK facility to meet increasing demand for high density hosting and virtualised environments

Telstra International, a leading global provider of managed networked solutions, today announced further expansion of its global data centre network. The new multi-million pound facility in Woking, UK, will provide an additional 10,000ft² of hosting space for Telstra International’s customers worldwide. It is due to open in Q4 2009.

Telstra’s CEO, David Thodey travelled to London to launch the new centre which will support the evolving data requirements of enterprise customers across Europe, Asia Pacific and the Americas.

“Telstra International’s global data centres have connectivity to Telstra’s global Next IP™ network which means multinational companies can benefit from a complete global solution,” Mr Thodey said.

The new UK Data Centre in Woking has been designed to support evolving infrastructure requirements, as customers upgrade and adapt their IT systems to make use of technologies such as virtualisation and Software as a Service (SaaS).

“The UK is an operational focal point for most global enterprise companies, and the success of Telstra’s international team is based on meeting their exact IT infrastructure requirements.

“We offer a unique combination of first-class hosting facilities, international scale and global connectivity to provide a superior experience in managed network solutions. We are well-placed to maintain our growth in the market by continuing to match and exceed our customer’s needs,” Mr Thodey said.

The facility will provide a wide range of managed hosting services, from managed storage to smart remote hands. Disaster recovery is delivered through resilient fibre optic cable feeds between Telstra International’s other UK data centres in Cambridge and London. Connectivity to Telstra’s global Next IP™ network means multinational companies can benefit from a complete global solution, with access to the Telstra network and data centres in the Asia Pacific regions and the Americas.

Telstra International’s EMEA (Europe Middle East and Africa) team is leading the expansion of the company’s Global Data Centre network, capitalising on London’s position as a data centre hub for multinational companies worldwide. In addition to the new Woking facility, the EMEA team is continuing its focus on investment in its Cambridge and London data centres to ensure they meet growing customer demand for advanced infrastructure hosting.
