State Government boost good news for new home buyers

Porter Davis commends the Victorian Government on its announcement to boost the state contribution to the First Home Owners Grant and said it is excellent news for first home buyers.
The announcement takes the First Home Buyers Grant for new homes in Victoria to $18,000 in metro centres and $22,500 for new homes in regional areas of Victoria, with the Grant now available until June 30, 2010.
The boost is a huge win for first home buyers and provides much needed certainty for the future.
Porter Davis were present at the Premiers announcement on Wednesday May 6 after working closely with the Victorian Government and the Housing Industry Association (HIA) over the past few months.
So far, the Grant has helped many buyers by bridging the deposit gap during a period of high lender caution, but Porter Davis knew there was more tat needed to be done and worked side-by-side with the HIA and the Victorian Government to ensure support for first home buyers continued.
The extension of the Grant will allow more buyers to take advantage of the scheme and provide more time to conduct research about house designs, locations and finance options, – good news given the tough economic climate and housing affordability issues that buyers have had to content with.
With this latest announcement, and interest rates at a 40 year low, this is an excellent time to confidently enter the market.
